We believe that if we give them the roots children will grow wings and fly

Fulbridge School is a large primary school in New England, Peterborough. It hosts just over 130 members of staff and approximately 700 pupils from over 30 different countries, every one of whom matters. The school provides an exciting and varied curriculum with themed corridors and inspiring classrooms. Our school is changing constantly, and has a Children's Centre on site at the front of school; exciting new prospects are always on the horizon. The school has gained the status of being a National School of Creativity, one of only 56 schools nationally, from all educational sectors. Enjoy this website to view what is going on at Fulbridge at the moment.  Please remember to give our site a star rating.  If you have anything to contribute to the site such as names of past members of staff or stories to add to the history of the school section, please let us know.

This is how some children described our school

In the ICT Suite there are paintings of the planets and also there are passwords to get on the computers which are the same as the planets. There are paintings of made up planets that children from our school have done.

In the playground there are many murals, one is an ocean full of colourful strange, fishes. The fish’s skin is like a colourful peacock. When you look up you will see cute calm birds flying everywhere in the freezing sky.

On our field we have a play area that is called Excalibur. Here there is a beautiful princess waiting for her prince. Excalibur is fun and exciting. There are huge spiders crawling all over the walls. Also there are colourful emerald, red and golden gates all around Excalibur. Walls are broken so knights can attack. There are golden ropes that you can climb up.

On the field there is emerald green grass waving from side to side. There is a huge hill on the field that you can have fun on. The hill is like an enormous sleeping giant. There are tall trees where you can sit and cool yourself. The quiet area has wooden brown benches you can sit on. It is very calm there so you can relax like you are on a beach. There are concrete animals that keep on staring at you when you go near, it is kind of weird.

You will love being at Fulbridge School.

Head's Message

We have always believed that all children and adults who work or visit our school deserve to be treated with respect, feel safe and should have the opportunity to grow and learn.

In all the years I have been at Fulbridge School (I cannot believe it is 14 years!) I  do not remember a time when Fulbridge children have behaved so well and when as I walk round school each day I have seen so much 'learning' going on. We have a large number a lovely hard working children and a strong and committed staff. This does not happen by chance, it comes from staff, children, parents and governors all working well together.  We have a curriculum approach and a system of daily rituals and routines that make the school an enjoyable place to be for both children and adults.

The academic year 2009/2010 was our most successful year ever. We were assessed by Creative Partnerships, the governments flagship body for creativity, and they have given us the status of a National School of Creativity. We are one of only 56 schools, nationally across all education sectors to be given this status - the highest you can achieve!  After 6 years of developing our creative thinking curriculum and our creative school environment this is a fantastic recognition for all the hard work and enthusiasm that staff and children have shown over the years. In addition to this our KS1 SATs results were better than last year and our KS2 results our best ever! In English and Science 89% of the children got Level 4 or above and in Mathematics 90% of the children got Level 4 and above. Over 50% of the children got Level 5 in Reading and Science and 37% in Mathematics. In 2009/2010 we had completed our first year as a National School of Creativity and now had a caravan on the school site as well developing our creative curriculum even further with the help of our Creative Consultant, Creative Agent and Creative Practitioner working alongside our Creative Coordinator and of course the most important people - the children.  We were also delighted with our SATs results that compared favourably to last year and were even better in some areas.  In English 83% of the children got Level 4 or above and in Mathematics 89% of the children got Level 4 and above. 51% of the children got Level 5 in Reading and 49% in Mathematics. 81% of the children got Level 4 and above and 71% in writing. The children's improvement in terms of National Curriculum levels and mini-levels in Mathematics is likely to put us in the top 5% of schools nationally as last years results put us in the the top 10% nationally for such improvement.

The children always look so smart in their school uniform and school shoes and this is one of the reasons why we rarely experience poor behaviour around our school. Children need to look as if they are here to learn and that is why we insist that hair must be a natural colour, no shorter than a number two with no designs in the hair. The wonderful displays in the corridors and classrooms are always treated with respect by everyone in school and they make our school very different from other schools - we are, I believe, a school that makes you long for childhood! Many of our corridors have been improved so that we have such exciting and educational areas as an Anderson Shelter, Egyptian Tomb, Castle and dungeon, Shrek area, Tudor area with Tudor banquetting area, Victorian classroom, parlour and kitchen and a fairytale area amongst others. These areas are designed to stimulate the children's imagination and act as role play areas as well as simply improving the school environment and making it a child friendly place. Staff work very hard and give up a lot of time to develop these areas for the children.

The main front door of school is for the Children's Centre not for parents of children, unless you are visiting school between the hours of 9.15am and 2.45pm when you must for security use this entrance.

We have about 30 extra-curricular clubs running before or after school! This is an amazing number and I would doubt that many primary schools can match this provision, many thanks to all the staff who give up their time to run these and the 'outside' providers who use our school facilities. Some are selective, based on ability and others are open to anyone. See notice board near the school office for times and details.

IN THE INTERESTS OF SAFETY AND SECURITY:

1. Pushchairs are not allowed in school corridors—there is not enough space!!!!

2. Do not use the main school entrance on Keeton Road as an entrance or exit. It is for the Children’s Centre. Only use this entrance when visiting school during school hours (9.15 to 2.45pm)

3. Please read all the school rules on the back page of your Year Outline pamphlet.

4.         For security and safety of your children, please do not enter the school at the end of the day, children will be brought out to you. Too many adults in school makes it difficult to monitor who should and should not be in school.
