About Me

I spent my entire Primary School years at Fulbridge. Mr Bailey was the Head Teacher, and Mr Richards my teacher in my final year before I left to go to King's School.

This profile Image was taken at Fulbridge when I was 7 years old.

In those days we were academically 'streamed'. Even then, my creative gift in drawing was take into account  by Mr Richards who honoured it in a number of ways.

This put me in a very good position when I went on to King's. And, in fact,  throughout my life. It respected my unique approach to learning and to life generally.

I was one of a group of ten boys identified at Kings as academically exceptional and involved in an 'experiment' whereby we were leap-frogged over the second year (Form 2) directly into the Third Form. (We survived -academically at least - quite brilliantly).

I left school at 16 to become an Officer in the Merchant Navy, visiting every Continent on the planet by my 21st  birthday then returned to England to pursue my passion for Art, Design and Teaching.

For ten years I taught in leading schools in the emerging nation of Papua New Guinea, then moved with my family (Judy and I have 5 children) to start a new life in Australia. I taught at Griffith University's College of Art being identified in a National Education Survey as being among the 4% of exemplary University Teachers.

I took early retirement after 20 years, to further pursue my interests in Art and Education.

I trace the confidence in myself which has accompanied me throughout a happy and productive life to Fulbridge School, way back in the 40s  'giving me such good roots'. I am so happy to see that this continues in the Oasis curriculum based around Creativity.
