What to do if you

think

you are being bullied

by

someone.

A Guide for Children.

(These issues are regularly discussed at school, this guide will help parents to discuss bullying with their children at home).

Who could bully you?

  1. Another child.
  2. A friend
  3. An adult out of school
  4. An adult in school
  5. An older brother or sister
  6. A friend of someone you know
  7. A relative
  8. It could be anybody!

The bully may be someone at school or someone at home or in your neighbourhood.

What does a bully do?

Any or all of the following:

  • Call you names
  • Hit you
  • Kick you
  • Nasty to you
  • Stare at you
  • Talk about you unpleasantly to others
  • Try to get other people not to be friends with you
  • Take things that belong to you
  • Threatens you and makes you feel afraid
  • Tell you not to tell anyone about what they are doing

We all fall out with people and argue from time to time but a bully is unkind to you day after day over a long period of time. The bully is in control and you are the victim.

Some facts to remember:

Remember a bully needs help, often they are being bullied as well.

Fulbridge School is against any type of bullying or fighting. We do not allow any sort of fighting, including play fighting and hitting back (retaliating).

Do not wind people up and then claim they are bullying you when they hurt you back!

Sadly some children encourage children to bully them so that they can get attention from those children and adults.

DO NOT LIE AND MAKE UP STORIES ABOUT BEING BULLIED. THIS WILL GET YOU IN A LOT OF TROUBLE.

What to do if you are a bully:

Talk to someone about it, an adult at school or at home and they will help you.

Nobody wants you to be a bully and adults will help.

Tell someone why you are bullying people.

What is bullying?

“Bullying is long standing violence, physical or psychological, conducted by an individual or group and directed against an individual who is unable to defend himself in the actual situation.”

Tell Someone!

  • Tell your parent – your mum or your dad
  • Tell your teacher
  • Tell an adult in school
  • Tell a relative
  • Tell a friend
  • Tell lots of people.
  • If someone does not listen properly to you, tell someone else.
  •

Tell the bully that you think they are bullying you.

Tell someone if you see somebody else being bullied.

  •

BULLYING WILL NOT GO AWAY UNLESS YOU TELL SOMEONE. AND KEEP TELLING!

What should the adult or your friend do when you tell them you are being bullied?

  1. Stay calm
  2. Tell someone else – your teacher and/or your parent or someone you trust. Tell someone who can do something to stop it.

Standard excuses from a bully:

“It was a joke.”   “It was an accident.”    “I’m sorry.”

“It was only a game.”

(Remember a joke or a game is something that all those involved in are enjoying)
